The ceramist is the person who needs to have the most accurate information about the shade of the final restoration(s) as well as the character of the smile and patient's aesthetic smile goals.
This information is usually communicated via photos taken at the dental office and a written description, with the dentist being the "messenger". Nothing, however, beats seeing it for yourself, especially for the ceramic artist who otherwise relies only on the information he receives.
The best outcomes are always when the ceramist can see and talk to the patient himself, noticing all the details that are so crucial to create the best work. This also eliminates any photographic ambiguities and variables compared to when the photos are taken in the dental office (ie. variable lighting, glare from flash, variable camera settings, etc).
You will meet with Mike Archibald and he will guide you through the process, ask you relevant questions, give you some choices and show you examples of his work that would apply to you. He also will take photos of your teeth, smile and face to have as a reference while he is working.
If it is a complex shade matching of a single tooth, you may be asked to come in for a final check before the restoration is sent back to the office for cementation.
Please do not wear lip make up of any kind. Chapstick or light vaseline only if you need moisturizing.
Please refer your patient to this page for information and making an appointment with Mike Archibald prior to the prep date.
Mike will only need photos of the prep shade with the shade tab positioned at the same plane as the long axis of the tooth. Please ensure that the prep is not desiccated when taking a photo.
